When warm weather arrives, most people prefer to be outside as much as possible, making an outdoor space more than just a garden. Today, backyards are multi-purpose areas that reflect personal interests and personalities, and are often used for the same activities that take place indoors. A garden can serve as a much-needed retreat that – when well-designed and decorated – can increase a home’s usable space.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll look at the backyard by letter, in an A to Z guide full of smart and stylish outdoor decor ideas, along with  useful garden elements.

G – Glow-in-the-dark elements: Create a brilliant outdoor scene with glow-in-the-dark furniture and planter pots. Perfect for poolside or to create a focal point, these elements will provide a soft glow and funky ambience.

There are three ways to achieve this look:

Option 1: Incorporate LED-lit furniture. It’s durable, scratch- and scuff-resistant, 100 per cent waterproof, glows wirelessly and turns on with the flick of a switch.

Option 2: Decorate with solar powered pots. These pots work by absorbing the sun’s rays by day to charge an internal battery that powers built-in LEDs when it gets dark.

Option 3: Paint some pots using Rustoleums Glow in the Dark paint; the pots will absorb sunlight during the day and glow at night. This is an easy and cost-effective option.
